THE BIG FEAR, landing on my Top April Book List, an excellent Amazon Kindle First pick. Andrew Case delivers a striking debut and new exciting (Hollow City Series) procedural crime thriller. Review to follow.

Surprising and unusual police story

Starts out light and easy, then hard to put down until I stayed up half the night to finish it up.

Authentic cop tale

Loved the voice of the cop more than the story itself. Overall the story was alright. Can't say the fear is something that comes across convincingky.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I got it for free from Amazon, so I think my expectations were pretty low, but I really enjoyed it.
I feel like I have a hard time finding a thriller that's compelling without being eye-rollingly over the top, with decently written characters who don't devolve into stupid dialog that ruins the story for me.
This book was all (or none) of those things. Compelling, not over the top, no stupid dialog.
It's definitely noir-ish - it presents modern day New York in a very specific, unflattering light. There is a lot of description of the grittier, darker parts of the city... and the shadows hiding behind the glossier parts of the city.
In terms of the thrillers I've read recently, this is definitely one of the better ones.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I would rate it 4-4.5 stars.

Well written and interesting story line. I would love to see it made into a movie! One of the first books I have won from Goodreads that had characters I connected with and a plot that got me hooked. I recommend it!

I picked this book from one of the Kindle First choices and am very glad I did. The author did a great job of developing the characters, holding my attention, and creating a clear vision of the world in which the tale takes place.

I had a little trouble getting into it at first because there was so much going on but, man am I glad I stayed with it. As the story unfolded, things came together. The story was exciting! I got this book for free as this month's Kindle First choice. I'm so glad I chose this book.

This novel is about several investigations proceeding at the same time with some aspects not clear to those doing the investigating that the investigations are most likely related.

Rather than a single main character, there are several major characters that the novel deals with.

I am really conflicted about this review and here's why - this novel is one of the better "police procedural" novels I have read in a long time. Having insight into the world of law enforcement and governmental machinations, this area of the novel is dead on and I enjoyed that greatly.

I also enjoyed how the author wove different threads found in different parts into a singular plot.

While reading the novel, where the novel went astray for me was that of the main plot point and how for me to have fully enjoyed it, it required somewhat of a suspension of rational belief.

Still, the novel was enjoyable and recommend with reservations.

What has veteran cop Ralph Mulino stumbled onto when he boards a boat on the river in New York to find a dead man, and then moments later he kills a cop. When the head of the Department to Investigate Misconduct and Corruption resigns it is left to the new acting head Leonard Mitchell to investigate. But it gets complicated.
Enjoyed the story but felt some of the description could have be cut as it didn't add to the story.
