The single dad x nanny trope is one of my all time favorites, so I knew going into this book that I’d love it 😉 Kai is by far my favorite Liz Tomforde MMC and probably top 5 of allllll MMCs, he was that amazing!

*There are five spicy scenes in Caught Up. I’ve included the pages & percentages at the bottom of this review.*

Kai is a famous baseball player and very recently found out he is a father when the baby mama just dropped his son, Max, at his doorstep & said she doesn’t want to be a mother. He’s had to adapt to being a single father while maintaining his baseball career. The team management has done everything they can to assist him in child care but Kai keeps firing the nanny’s - in his eyes, no one is good enough to watch his son AND he’s honestly looking for a reason to retire.

Miller, Kai’s coach’s daughter and renowned pastry chef, quits her current contract after being harassed by someone in the kitchen. When her father learns of this, he convinces her to stay in Chicago for the summer until her next contract and nanny for Kai’s son.

Kai and Miller are like oil and water at first but they are undeniably attracted to each other. The chemistry is off the charts and that slow burn tension was soooo worth it 🔥 Kai’s protectiveness & all around amazingness towards Miller and Max made him one of the sexiest MMCs I’ve ever read.

I loved this book, the characters, and the storyline, but Miller did start to frustrate me towards the end. She was so very clearly unhappy with the idea of going back to consult for different kitchens, and she was so very clearly happy with Max & Kai, that it did not make sense why she was digging in her heels about the rules and going back. Not to mention her misplaced guilt towards her father’s career. I wanted to jump through the pages and give her a little shake, because I am all for a woman putting her life and career first but not when it comes at the cost of her happiness!

My favorite things in this book:

1. Max. I was absolutely obsessed with this little boy and his constant smiles for Kai, the team, and Miller 💕

2. Miller calling Kai “Baseball Daddy” 🤣

3. Learning what Max was trying to say every time he said “Mmmm” *sob fest*

I cannot wait for Isaiah and Kennedy’s story!!

Caught Up by Liz Tomforde isn’t just a romance, it’s a full-body, tear-jerking, soul-healing experience. I was absolutely wrecked in the best possible way by this book. If you’re a sucker for sports romance, single dads, found family, or just ridiculously good storytelling, this one needs to be at the top of your TBR.

Let’s talk about Kai Rhodes. A broody, fiercely protective, emotionally guarded baseball player who just wants to be a good dad to his son Max. My heart ached for him. He’s exhausted, lost, and trying to figure out if there’s still space in his life for dreams that once meant everything. Then there's Miller, a celebrated pastry chef with a heart full of grief, guilt, and talent, who ends up being the unexpected lifeline Kai and Max never knew they needed.

Their meet-cute? Awkward. Their banter? Unmatched. Their chemistry? Off. The. Charts. And the forced proximity trope? Done to absolute perfection. Watching Miller slowly become the anchor in Kai and Max’s chaotic life and vice versa was heart-melting. Every moment with Max made me smile, and the tension between Miller and Kai was pure torture in the best way. Soft, slow, then scorching.

Tomforde has this incredible way of layering grief, hope, and love into her characters. The deeper family dynamics. Kai and Isaiah’s history, Monty and Miller’s sacrifices. They hit hard and added so much richness. Watching Miller rediscover her joy in the quiet moments was just as powerful as the fiery, intimate ones she shares with Kai.

And that ending? I sobbed. Like, ugly crying. Miller choosing Kai and Max, not out of obligation but because they are her home, was so incredibly moving.

I could honestly talk about Caught Up forever, but just know: this book is tender, sexy, funny, and so beautifully written. Liz Tomforde has outdone herself. It’s not just a love story, it’s about healing, choosing joy, and building the life you want even if it’s scary.

If I could give it 10 stars, I would. Run, don’t walk, this one will stay with you forever!
