I'm glad I read this, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. How invested I was definitely depended on each specific poem. I enjoyed the broad approach to introducing many different knights, but it came at the cost of feeling like nobody had significant growth or was able to grow on you.

Personally, I much prefer Tennyson's Arthurian poems not included in Idylls of the King, "The Lady of Shalott" and "Sir Galahad". They're stand-alone, so I might recommend looking into them first. If you enjoy them, you might be like me and appreciate enough of Idylls to give the book a shot.

Some of these stories are more entertaining than others. I’ll want to come back to this again as a couple stories are extremely interesting and not often retold.

It’s probably not everyone’s favourite take on Arthurian legend, but I love the rhythm and the word choice in these poems. They really immerse the reader. There’s also a focus on Guinevere and Elaine’s emotions in their respective poems that, even if you don’t enjoy the ideas presented by them, is interesting compared to early Arthurian works

I've always had a fascination with the legends of King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, and the Knights of the Round Table (even took a college course on them), and I have always been in awe of Tennyson's poetry and command of language and style. The Idylls is a brilliant combination of Tennyson's beautiful and vivid poetry with familiar yet still enchanting legends. I am simply in awe.
