This was pretty good. I really enjoyed it. I am kind of hoping that there will be another book, but I am satisfied if there isn't.

Well, this is difficult. Halfway through this felt like three or four stars, but by the end it had slipped to two and a half, ad after some reflection only two.

This was also my reaction to Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, and probably for similar reasons. The plot just bubbles along, and interesting things happen, but at the end it was all just froth. (And I hadn't planned to end there when I typed "bubbles"!)

Then one realizes that there was just too much in there, all plot and no character, many things left unexplained because who's got time? Too many convenient meetings and wild guesses and lucky finds. OK, way too many.

The key to the plot, in which characters see things that, er, might not be conventionally explainable, is just a bit too much handwaving for me. "You see, what's happening here is a manifestation of interweaving of realities ...Oh! Look, are those donuts?"

I'll probably reads #2 anyway, but I will have much lower expectations than I had as I plowed through #1. To be fair, the new level may be what the author(s) was/were trying for all along.

Oof. Could have been a fun, sexy romance novel but turned weird from the beginning and not in a good way. Dodgy character development, loose plot, and very predictable twists.

3.5 stars. Entertaining for sure. I'll be reading the sequel.

Not what I expected but it was great in the end. It took so many unexpected turns and I really loved the story line. Could get a little dull in places, but for the most part it was thrilling as well as a nice easy read.

A very fun read. Music, mystery, intrigue and sexy aristocrats. You'll either love or hate this book, I think. It has a quirky style that I enjoy, but (judging from other reviews) just grates for some.

The author interview here on Goodreads is a fair preview of the weird-ity you might expect. If it makes you smile, then this book might be for you. https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_posts/3526759-an-interview-with-magnus

I enjoyed the story, the plot, and how it flowed. But I had been hoping for a book that would sweep me into an adventure. This was a book I felt I could put down easily. It just didn't suck me in as I wanted. Nonetheless a good story and I enjoyed all the history and mystery. It was still a fun read!
