I hate to call a book boring but that's literally my only thought on this. The only reason why I was able to make it through over half of it was because I had nothing else to do at the time. This just wasn't for me at all.
Moderate: Child death, Death, Torture, Grief, Murder
The story of Kazu, a homeless man in Japan, was told in excruciatingly heartbreaking detail. The homeless are invisible to the rest of society there, as they are everywhere. I can’t say I loved the book—but it needed to be written to give this community a voice and make their suffering clear to the rest of us. In that regard, it was very well written and deserving of every award it received.

Grippingly haunting (the perspective that of a formerly homeless ghost), descriptive, and sad. Some beautifully crafted sentences throughout. Very unique. And even though the setting is Japan, this is a timely expression of class divisions that speaks to similar in the US.

This book was a christmas gift from my dad, and had been left on my shelf for quite a while. I’m glad i’m glad he got it for me because I definitely would’ve judged it by its cover. Initially I only glanced over the summary, but it actually has much more depth than what I had assumed. It’s the story of a homeless man in Tokyo and we follow him through his life and his death in a very thoughtful but heartbreaking way.
Miri’s writing style is beautiful, and i will definitely be picking up more of her work.

Really strong meanings, a little confused with ending/hard to follow at times
