I thought I was going to read a book about a romance and I found the story of a completely broken family.

Thsi book started out great…but then i realized its just boring streaming of consciousness…also the time line is very messy and not creative at all because in the same  damn  page the writer will jump from one time line to the other…one minute she’s at damn boat ..the otehr she is an old lady .the otehr she’s with her chines lover ….i only have 20 pages left but i won’t finish it because i promised myself not to finish books i hated aloat!

beautiful words weaved with melancholia and tinges of regrets, yet they spoke of the defiance of a young girl of fifteen who didn't perceive life with the same orthodox outlook as her peers, she probed her uncharted carnal desires, and grappled with the bitter-sweet relationship she had with her family. I don't consider her story with the older man a romance, therefore, I don't condone it in any way. I rather see it as a an experience of an adolescent who were merely too curious to have a taste of what she thought was 'adulthood', forced by circumstances to break with childhood way too soon.

Duras writing style is like poetry in prose. The book doesn't shy away from the grittier aspects of life, adding a raw authenticity to the narrative. I find it disturbing, but if you enjoy immersive storytelling with a touch of the unconventional, you might find this book captivating.
