Great for a read-aloud. May we all have a Miss Agnes in our lives.

AAAAHHHH! So good!!!!! My nine-year-old daughter and I just loved this book. The plot couldn't be more simple, but the details along the way...the sentence-long stories and anecdotes. We adored it and finished the last half in one sitting, with me literally sobbing through the last two chapters. What a treasure.

Bedtime story for the kids. This was an interesting book, good for giving a solid feel for what life is like in a very different environment than our own (early 1900s Alaska). The eponymous Miss Agnes seems to be a gentle encouragement for some things we today would consider obvious: self-determination, the importance of education, grit, broad-mindedness, the worth of every individual, and she does it in a culture where those things are conspicuously absent. Good for 8-10 y.o.

I love stories about education and teachers who do things differently. Im excited to read this to the boys in a few years as well as educate them like Miss Agnes.
