I liked this little book. I got it to read to my older boys, and they listened to most of it but finally started telling me it was too boring.

It was slow-paced, with a female narrator, so I just finished it on my own. It was a nice little story about a wonderful teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Alaska. Good message.

We read this book with our homeschool curriculum and absolutely loved it. We will definitely be checking out more books by Kirkpatrick Hill.

Miss Agnes is a fantastic character and the type of teacher who is a breath of fresh air. The kids and I really enjoyed this short read aloud set in remote Alaska in 1948. I found myself getting tripped up with the language sometimes, as bad grammar is abundant to reflect the way the characters spoke. That was a bit of a struggle. Overall, we liked it.

Read this with Lily as part of our Arctic theme for the month of January. She really enjoyed it, and it provided many opportunities to talk about history and culture.

This book has been sitting on my daughters shelf for as long as I could remember. None of us had read it. So I finally did. Mostly because in this whole COVID 19 time I have been having trouble focusing on reading. Well, I thought it was charming and I wish my kids had read it when they were younger. Just a lovely story of life as a kid in Alaska. A story of a very special teacher and the effect she had on the population of the small town she taught in.

Oh I love these sort of books best!
Where the story has flow,
and characters grow,
and there's lots of adventure,
to be had in the snow!

It's a short but so utterly down to your bones warm and satisfying read, I fell in love with all the characters, how often can you say that about a book?
I wish it had been twice as long!

This was such a sweet story set in Alaska about a small school and a teacher who comes from England and changes their lives. I loved it!

Enjoyed it but didn't necessarily love it. I think my expectations were too high. :(
