Frank Herbert is easily one of the best authors I've ever read. I don't see why any of these books aren't considered classics. This book takes you on a wild ride and represents the end of an era in the world of Arrakis. I can't wait to read the 3rd book as this one brought about just as many questions as it answered -- quite characteristic of Frank Herbert's writing.
Graphic: Murder, Death, and Grief
Moderate: Drug use
Minor: Incest, Infertility, Pregnancy, Suicide, and War

Boy did I have a hard time getting through this one, although it was worth it. Still having a hard time with Herbert's cryptic and jumpy writing style, with occasional stunning sentences or paragraphs piercing through. It is an absolutely necessary second installment to Dune however, and I think my doubts about plot holes are likely to be solved within the larger canon of the Dune universe. But will I have the patience?
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship
Minor: Death, Drug abuse, Fire/Fire injury, Grief, Incest, and Injury/Injury detail

This was a perfect follow-up to dune and I adored how it followed the aftermath of deification, how Paul had to humanize himself once again to get out from under the shadow he was trying so desperately to avoid. It's an interesting work of ethics and morality and continued to expand upon the rich world established in the first book.
Once again, it's very much a product of its time, accompanied with prevailing attitudes of the era, so tread with caution. But overall, I very much enjoyed it.
