The curse of disappointing/messy final books continues 😔 I still love love the world and the characters and the first half was actually pretty good. And the battle ??? she was crazy for that. Ending felt rushed and major conflicts resolved in a matter of pages- wish we’d gotten to be “on screen” for more of it. Lots of character reactions or fights happened off page. Tragic- second book best again (re: ballad). Very interesting.

While The Infernal Devices remains my favorite series, this makes a close second. As usual, Cassie creates both beautiful & devastating settings, and introduces unimaginable conflict. I can never guess how she plans to solve anything and it’s always brilliant.

Also, seeing Will Herondale again…sigh. I needed that.

Vaya vaya.

Nah, man.

No sé, iba tan bien y luego bye.

Gurl. I read this in 3 days nawr. I’m exhausted literally thinking about this. For starters: what the fuck
I need a book-long epilogue of these people living tjeir lives please don’t make me turn to fanfic i will die
I get the gripe about this: but also the miscommunication came from a place of FLAWSSSSS. People are insecure and have TRUST ISSUES AND TRAUMA.
Alastair is my baby i can’t believe i thought i would hate him
Matthew is meh. I like him but I’m not in love with him.
JAMES AND CORDELIA I WANNA DATE YOU BOTH. James lived up to what highschool me expected. Thanks for not letting me down bestie.
I literally love everyone in this book. Anna, thomas, even grace grew on me (shock)
I don’t understand the gripe about people not liking the non-mourning of Christopher. We had a death. An important unnecessary death. But its collateral. That’s life. We just came out of a pandemic i don’t need the shadowhunters mourning on page for 3 chapters. This book felt like fan service ngl. Except for the christopher-grace shippers. RIP. The character was well acknowledged and people mourn in different ways espe people coming out of trauma (like coming out of the pandemic) WHO JUST WANNA BE HAPPY LET THEM MOVE ON.
Amen

[ i can’t really write a review rn i need to let everything sink in but idk i keep flicking between 4 and 5 stars maybe this will have to be a 4.5

editing this twenty minutes later and now it’s teetering between a 3 and a 4….

okay!! i think i can finally write a review so here goes nothing ]

i’m going to officially give this 3.5 stars. as much as i hate the say it, i was slightly disappointed by this book. there were parts that were awesome, and i love practically all of the characters, but i really think this is a weak final book to end off the trilogy.

ik i should be happy that there was only one major death, but is it really a phenomenal shadowhunter book if i’m not crying and screaming into my pillow at 3am?? and speaking of which, i couldn’t even bring myself to stay up and finish the book on friday night, even though i was already at or around the 500 page mark.

the love triangle was really annoying, and kinda unnecessary??? grace was redeeemed with little-to-no true consequences for her actions, and kit was given literally no thought by anyone other than thomas and anna once it had been 50 pages since his death.

the emotional potential was there, but i felt like something was missing!! people have been saying alastair was originally supposed to die instead of kit (and while that would be devastating and i’m happy we got thomastair endgame (more on that later)), the subsequent events would’ve made so much more sense if alastair had died instead of kit. plus someone (matthew
