First of all, this is not a book by Martha Stewart. She wrote the intro and contributed one recipe. Questlove is a DJ for a famous late night show. He knows plenty of celebrities and had them all contribute. In return he sent them a song inspired by themselves or their recipes, each one described in the book. He also has sections on hosting a potluck and creating a playlist for it. Of course you can find the playlist on Spotify. Personally I liked the jazz, oldies, and novelty songs about food, not most of the hip hop. But it was interesting, an added plus to a cookbook. At first I didn't think I liked most of the recipes, but when I started to read his comments, they grew on me. Potlucks are full of stuff you wouldn't make yourself, but you like to see what other people make. This book is like that. I had to return it to the library, but I think it also had nice photos.

questlove assigned famous people songs to inspire a potluck recipe. I had only heard of some of the people and almost none of the songs, and yet I found the whole idea fascinating.

I love cookbooks and this is such a unique angle for one. I can't wait to cook and listen my way through this in my kitchen.

A fun and a different approach to a cookbook. Almost as fun to read through as it is to cook from.

I haven't made any of the recipes yet, but I enjoyed the concept and this was fun to read through.

Funnily enough, this book served more as an inspiration to host fun gatherings than it served as a cohesive cookbook. I'm not mad about that, though. A eclectic menagerie of recipes with some less-than-stellar photos didn't detract from the fact that this book is a love letter to cooking, eating, sharing, and gathering. I enjoyed reading through it (honestly, the writing is charming) and will definitely try more of the recipes!

I LOVED the concept of this book! A kind of synesthesia of food and music. I listened to each song as I read the recipe it went with, and was introduced to a lot of cool tracks I didn't know before. The whole thing felt like an interactive and artistic experience.

There were only a few recipes I'd consider trying myself, but I'd definitely go to this potluck party!

Recipes of note for myself:
- Open-Face Mushroom Sliders with Maple Chipotle Aioli by Haile Thomas (p. 97)
- Spicy Sweet and Sour Chicken with Lemongrass by Andrew Zimmerman (p. 145)
- Country Captain Chicken by Mashama Bailey (p. 152)
- Ginger Beer by Thelma Golden (p. 179)
- Tina's Cold "Pizza" by Jarobi White (p. 198)
