Loveable characters:
No
I was not a fan of the third-person narrative. It left the story telling a bit dry for me. However, I did enjoy the plot and how things happened for better and worse. The ending had a fun little twist.
Both the husband and wife are unlikable and in serious denial. Too bad both couldn't die.
I'm a big fan of domestic and psychological thrillers. Unfortunately, this one was not for me. I felt like the story was constantly building up towards a big climax that never happened. I was bored towards the end and the event that I feel like was supposed to be the big twist wasn't a twist at all - just another event. I found the characters to be unlikeable, which was kinda cool - I think it's entertaining to read about unlikable characters sometimes, but all the characters in this story were unlikable.
Now, let's talk about the positive things! I liked the intern monologues of Jodi, the wife. She was a psychologist and was constantly analyzing the husband's behaviors based on her knowledge, which was very interesting. As well as the parts where they would reminisce about the past. I feel like this story was interesting enough to finish and if you're looking for a steady thriller without a big twist, maybe you'll like this one.

This just isn’t a thriller. Maybe it is a good book in its own right, but it isn’t what it’s marketed as, at all. And for that I can’t help but feel a little duped.

"Instead of heading straight for Jefferson Park he turns west on Roosevelt and makes a stop at Home Depot. If he added up the time he's spent in this store it would come to months of his life."
"We are all mediums for our own basic truths. All we really have in life is the primal force that moves us through our days -- our unvarnished, untutored, ever-present, inborn agency. Life force is the holy ghost in each of us."

великий недолік цього тексту – про героїв дуже зрозуміло, хороші вони чи погані. це, звісно, зроблено доволі тонко і здебільшого викликає праведний гнів, але трохи менше однозначності пішло би книжці на користь.
