Have to say over all this series was really good. This book was the funniest out of the four. Aubergines and Peaches. That's all I can say. Will hopefully be picking up Spindle Cove series soon.
Trigger Warnings: death of a parent, overdose (laudanum), suicide mentioned, and fire

I love these books. Tessa Dare makes reading historicals so fun! This was so sweet and watching these two fight falling in love was very precious. As always her books make me smile and make me happy!
*reread sometime in 5/23*
What a fun time. Tessa Dare is like having a picnic in a sunny field where there are no bugs and it’s one of those memories you never want to forget. Best feeling ever. And why I literally can’t go a month without reading a book she wrote.
*reread 5/9/24*
This book is better the more familiar I am with the other characters and remember all the great dynamics.
*reread 6/15/25*
I will agree with my last review that this book gets better and better each time.

AAAAAAAA
I LOVE THIS BOOK
literally everything and everyone in it.
hilarious heroine & hero. and both of them were super self-aware & honest about their flaws. and they were just so good together!!!
very very wholesome romance. the mystery i couldn’t care less about. but the couple was just one of my all time favs.

I enjoyed this whole series and loved the feisty FMC in this book and her brilliance and the detective work. It was very sweet and fun.
3.5 Stars.
I liked Charlotte and Piers romance, however the mystery in the book seemed a little silly to me. Especially with the child, Edward, Edmund?, contstantly antagonizing Piers and repeating the murder noises he heard. I have not read many of the Spindle Cove books, but a few couples are referenced in this book.

Piers is amazing! The spy angle (spoiler) is what made the book so incredibly to me, aside from the romance. I wish that the conclusion was more life or death, and (spoiler again) ACTUALLY related to him being a spy. Reveal of the "spy" plot was such a let down. You can't almost kill Charlotte and have it be an accident. Charlotte balances Piers in ways that they both don't realize for far too long.
Edmund's little appearances always made me laugh. Imagining an 8 year old, very stoically, sitting in the hallway in the middle of the night to catch a murderer was so funny.
Favorite part of the book hands down- Piers talking about how he's very powerful, and didn't have to marry Charlotte unless he wanted to. I couldn't stop reading (literally- 4am. I have a problem, and it's finals season).
