I love the beginning. The rhymes are reckless. The last part of this book just takes a lot of determination to read. Not because it is emotionally demanding, but because it is so boring.
Okay, I was 19 or 20 when I read it. But I remember my huge delight in the first part. And my impatience for the last part to just be *finished*!

A complete hot mess of a play, that is also completely brilliant.

I asked for this and several people said that I deserved what I got... I don't think I'll make the mistake again to read a book just because I think I have to. I won't deny that I learnt quite a bit especially some 'famous concepts' originating from "one of the greatest works of German literature" but mostly by reading Wikipedia summaries after each chapter. (That also helped with figuring out that apparently back then people got pregnant from kissing in garden sheds! Beware...) Anyways, 2 stars because now that I've read it I can finally cross it off my list AND I'm a bit smarter now.
