I loved this book. The found family aspect cut me to my core. Tyrell and June were so well developed and their community they were in was so vibrant and unique. I loved the characters so much. The conflict was super interesting to read about. I think it is important for kids to read about. As for the ending, I know it is unrealistic, and one protest and a child's speech won't change policy on the spot- but why should we discourage children from using their voices. Children read books to learn things, and if June's speech had gotten her nowhere, any child reading this book would hear that their voice is not important. Which is untrue. The target audience for this book must be encouraged to speak up. Because if they don't see it molded, no change will be attempted at all. They will learn the harshness of policy and the slowness of change as they grow us; for now, let them build confidence and hope. I think this ending was perfect.
