This took me a little bit to get into, but once I did, it was absolutely delightful. To show my age:

"I laughed, I cried; it moved me, Bob."

The adults were a LITTLE caricaturey, but not to the point at which I was rolling my eyes. They were stretched in an enjoyable fashion.

From the author of the beloved series, The Vanderbeekers, A Duet For Home is a beautiful, heart-tugging story of friendship, forgiveness, and family within the setting of a homeless shelter.

I loved so many things about this book from the characters that I didn't want to say goodbye to, to the healing power of music to the author's note at the end...just to name a few.

NOTE: I received a free ARC from a Goodreads Giveaway. I'm a big fan of the Vanderbeekers series for middle grade readers, and this standalone novel by author Karina Yan Glaser brings the same clarity of perspective, wonderful character development, and fast-paced storytelling. This is a great way for kids who haven't experienced homelessness to learn about the many ways not having your own home affects your life. For all kids, there are great examples of resilience, love, forgiveness and making your own family.
