Quite an excellent an linguistically vibrant novel from an author that is quickly turning into one of my favourites. I didn't have expectations for this book but the body horror, the recoiling that it caused me internally with descriptions is unmatched with anything and I was there for every second of it. Truly a love story of viscera

Why is every contemporary fantasy written like this now? “I saw the [generic gore], [adverb] [adjective]. I felt the [blood, sweat, tears, etc] on my face, [adverb], [adjective]. I had several bodily sensations designed specifically to make you cringe. Profound pull-quote that would have killed on 2016 Tumblr.”
On top of needing at least 200 more pages to contextualize this, the writing was so bogged down in itself that very little was actually said to make me care about the characters. Not the worst, but not super enjoyable or substantive.
