WTH just happened?!?!?! Admittedly, all the characters in this book were absolutely infuriating at times. The back and forth between Scarlett and Sorin with the trust and blocking bonds and Scarlett never wanting to communicate (though I do think she did get a bit better) got downright childish at times. I literally don't even know where to start. I'm literally mad at fictional characters right now. Tava was right, bitterness was not a good look for Callan. I expected some animosity from him towards Scarlett, but damn. I'm also on the fence about how I feel about him and Tava together,. Ashtine as much as I liked her, is on my shit list, not only for making several stupid decisions in under the guise of loyalty to Talwyn which is stupid all on its own, but for also breaking Briar's heart in doing so. I'm not surprised in the slightest by Talwyns betrayal of well basically everyone and everything. I was surprised to find that I could hate her even more than I already did. I understand abandonment issues on a personal level, but the stupid she has dredged up from hers is astounding. What happened with Sorin will not stand. It just can't. I refuse to believe it. I don't know it works, but I am both surprised and also not surprised with what happened with Nuri. Definitely disappointed in her, but a nice little twist nonetheless. While I reveled in Scarlett's little power play at the end with Alaric, I admit that after that I was a bit confused. The time jumping kind of threw me off a little because it went from them escaping the fight to then not being in the courts, but we have no idea where they are at. Then the little tidbit between Seraphena and the man from Scarlett's dreams. That whole conversation was confusing. The book made the dream guy seem like he was pretty important, yet he never told Scarlett his name but when it was given at the end I couldn't recall it ever being mentioned anywhere in the previous books from when any of them were doing research. So I still have no idea who he really is and what is role is supposed to be. I also need to know who the sister she spoke of was. My hope is that the beginning of the next book will clear up some of the confusion and hopefully quickly. At this rate, this entire series is on track to be a 5 star read for me. I am loving all the emotions it makes me feel.
