Finding Fraser

This was quite cute. Not a new fave but certainly enjoyable enough. Emma was sweet and her adventures were certainly interesting. But there was entirely too much time spend with Hamish...he was such a dud and it was quite obvious from the beginning. I wish Emma could have seen it sooner. Jack though, oh I definitely liked him. I wanted just a wee bit more of them together but what we got was good enough.

Finding Fraser was a great poolside read for my vacation to Florida last week! As a fan of both chick lit and the Outlander series, I picked this up knowing it would be a fun contemporary book to break up my usual YA fantasy streak.

While the premise of this book - a woman sells everything she owns to go to Scotland and find her own Jamie Frasier (all the while blogging about it) - can be off-putting (finding the perfect man = perfection and happiness), it ends up being more about Emma finding herself and a home in Scotland. Sure, she does end up with someone in the end and she makes a lot of stupid mistakes, but all in all, it was a fun, quick read and the romantic in me was cheering for a specific character the whole time. While I liked Austenland by Shannon Hale better, fans will find the same light humor and antics in this book.

I think that maybe I was expecting this book to be something else and perhaps that's why I didn't enjoy it as much. I had a difficult time settling in with the voice and found the situations a little fantastical. I had a difficult time going back to it to read it, but by the time I finally got to around 35%, I was able to read through a little faster. I wondered what "Susan" was about and think that's what kept me interested. What happened with both Hamish and Jack was predictable from the beginning.
