Not DuMaurier's best, which forever will be Rebecca, but another compelling psychological thriller with a fascinating and enigmatic central character and a wonderful setting in Italy. I liked it.

The first rule of 'reenactment of the uprising of the city of Ruffano against their much misunderstood lord and master, first duke, and called by all- the Falcon' Club
is you do not talk about 'reenactment of the uprising of the city of Ruffano against their much misunderstood lord and master, first duke, and called by all- the Falcon' Club

Really struggled with this book, but my unwavering faith in The Daphne pulled me through.

Liked the first third a lot…after that though, it lost pretty much all steam. Still worth a read, it’s nowhere near bad, just wasn’t for me.

A very different (for me) du Maurier read. I'm not going to claim I enjoyed it - but it was an intriguing and well-written account of the intricacies of a family, the relationship of two brothers, and the choices one makes between life and death and reconciliation.
