The third book of the Front Desk series reminded me of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix — it’s the first real time we get that “pre-teen” vibe from the main character, and see them make selfish mistakes in friendships. But ultimately they learn from them, of course!

Another heartwarming instalment in a series that's quickly become a favourite for its memorable cast of characters and the important issues it brings up from the eyes of a child.

I love the Front Desk Series. Kelly Yang knows how to take real life social and societal issues and make them digestible for younger readers. The book touches on topics such as colorism, consent, gender double standards, gentrification, racism, and more in a way that doesn’t down play the issues and also presents the ideas in a way that kids will definitely be able to relate to. In this adventure Mia travels to China to see family and returns to the United States to continue to navigate friendships, pursue her writing, navigate rejection, as well as stand up for the little guy (Calivista hotel) again big, powerful business. Mia is a feisty as ever. Looking forward to quickly picking up the next book, Key Player, and continue the adventures with Mia and the gang.

I have enjoyed all of the books in the Front Desk series. This book touched on speaking the truth, bullying and families. The kids are in middle school now so there was mention of crushes on boys but was very age appropriate. I would highly recommend all 3 of the Front Desk books to upper elementary kids.

Yes another fantastic book in the Front Desk series!
Full of heart and passion and hope! What a wonderful series that is just so beautifully Wholesome and Pure and inspiring! And best of all…it’s based on the author’s life!
Can’t wait for the next one!
Yang keeps getting better and better which is truly a rare thing!
I love it and so do the students! We can’t get enough of Mia and friends!
This needs to be made into a TV series!!!
10/10 would recommend!
