Where to begin! This book was absolutely brilliant.
The writing was phenomenal. The twists and intricacies of the plot keep you invested and unable to put the book down.
It covers some dark and disturbing issues flawlessly. You feel sympathy for the psychotic serial killer burning men to death when you fully understand his motivations.
The lead character Washington Poe is as intelligent as he is unmanageable, and his blossoming friendship with the shy, neuro-diverent Tilly Bradshaw is perfection.
I can't recommend this enough and have already started the sequel!

This is one of the best police procedurals I’ve read! The pace is good, I like the characters, and the mystery is fascinating (and grisly—not for sensitive readers)!

I really enjoyed this book, especially because it's set in my home county of Cumbria. Sometimes it felt a bit clunky, like the author was trying to shoehorn facts he knew into the plot. But once it got going there was less of this.
I listened to the audio book version, and the narrator was pretty good. Slightly grating whenever he pronounced the W in Stanwix, but if you're not from Cumbria you wouldn't know that! I'll definitely be listening to the further Washington Poe novels.

Exactly what I wanted from a murder mystery! A great duo and solid twists and turns.
