Best thriller of the year by far. The story was good and believable but the characters made it something great. I especially loved how they all interacted together. Will definitely be getting more in this series.

Police procedural with the unlikely duo of Washington Poe and Till Bradshaw. Fast paced with twists and turns. Guessed to murderer though!

This book was so good!

I read this in one day as I could just not stop reading it. My first book by this author and it did not disappoint.

From the humour, banter and the characters, everything just hit right. I highlighted so many things that made me chuckle. The atmosphere and the tension were great. There was just something about this book that is so good and addicting. The chapters are short so if you are a fan of James Patterson you should give this series a go.

Although I did figure out who the culprit was before the detectives I might add lol it didn't take away the enjoyment as there was still so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming.

Tilly is a queen and I look forward to hopefully seeing more of her in future books.

I actually read the last 30 or so pages repeatedly saying”oh shit oh shit oh shit”! What starts off with gore to the max turns into one of the most complicated plots ever that goes back to years of information. The flawed characters in this book are so endearing that they beg for a series & I will be first in line to read the next book! Bravo Craven!

This book was excellent! I love it all so much. It is a very great debut novel and the beginning of what I hope is a great series... Book #2 has already been purchased. I loved the relationship between Tilly and Poe, from their first scene together all the way up to their last! Tilly is awesome, and Poe is a very well written character. I can't not wait to get deeper into his psyche. Well done M.W. Craven... Well done!!

Tilly....ik ben fan!

For the whole book I kept waiting for the 'thrilling' part of the thriller. Sadly it never came. I had so many issues with this.
Washington Poe (stupid name) a suspended detective, who you guessed it, doesn't play by the rules, is roped into a serial killer case because his name is carved into one of the victim's bodies. He is paired up with Tilly, an analyst who is super infantilised the whole story. Is she supposed to be autistic, have aspergers...who knows. She feels like what people imagine someone neurodivergent is like without research.
The story is bogged down with police procedures, I found myself skimming alot, not a good sign.
I also guessed who the killer was really early on, and even wrote in my reading journal...'my guess is, its his mate Kylian.'
Don't even get me started on the fact that Washington is named after...wait for it.....the place his mom was raped in. Yep you heard that correctly. Tell me it was written by a man without telling me it was written by a man.

Some of my favourite quotes....

'That was the problem in areas with high employment; no one took their jobs seriously anymore. It was little more than pin money.' ( The most boomer sentence I have ever read. Who can afford pin money?! It's not the 1950s.)

'He'd never met anyone like her. She didn't seem to understand any of society's basic norms. There was no filter between her brain and her mouth and she blurted out whatever she was thinking. She had little to no understanding of non-verbal communication; she either refused to make eye contact or wouldn't break it.' (Cliched portrayal of whatever this is.)

'Judging by how lean and supple she looked, she'd obviously kept up to date with her marital arts training.' (Gross.)

'She wore no makeup. Bradshaw wore no makeup either, although that was by choice. She thought it was silly.' (*Eye roll* of course she does, because she's not like other girls you goose.)

'One of the things he liked about Coffee Genius was that the staff were always happy to stop and chat.' ( Well they must not be very busy or just too polite to tell him to clear off. Something tells me this author is a menace to the service industry and  min wage workers hate to see him coming.)

"Washington eh? There's an ambassadorial name if ever there was one. I can just imagine it being mentioned in high stakes diplomatic dispatches. The sort of name that stops war being declared. There's a fascinating story behind it no doubt?" ( Who talks like that? Fascinating story...funny you should ask lol)

'The arty farty set, Poe though, always trying to be different, always looking the same.' (Poe is so unique didn't you know. )

'Her naivety and innocence contrasted sharply with his own dark nature...' (*snort* He's so mysterious...not like other men. Honestly the way she is babied is infuriating and of course he has to keep coming to her rescue.)

There was more but I think that is enough.

Oh, also, I thought Poe read as a middle aged man but no he's 38...38!!!
