An outstanding read.
This story of a policeman, sidelined out of the force, having to come back to solve a serial killer's set of murders, without any help from his superiors who dislike his being there sounds like many other stories of this genre. Yet there is something about this book that elevates it above the others. I think it's Poe's relationship with Tilly. It is most certainly this author's writing skills. I read it in August and it's my favourite book of the year.
And the best cover too

Detective Washington Poe is currently suspended from police work when suddenly he is invited to join an investigation that is, in a way, revolving around himself as well. The serial killer is ruthless. In the beginning, nothing seems to link the murders, but when someone somewhere says something about a recent discovery, a butterfly effect starts slowly unfolding the bad guy.
It seems that I need to vary my reads a little more. I have been reading so many thrillers in the past two months that I unconsciously start to compare them with each other. This book was just the right amount of adventurous, sneaky and also humorous. And it definitely was a thriller. But I found that it wasn't that scary as I would have expected.
I mostly like plot twists in a book. The ones in The Puppet Show did not disappoint me as I did not see them coming.
adventurous funny mysterious fast-paced

This was one of the most thrilling crime books I've read, hooked you from the start and didn't let go until the very end. It's so talented crafted and I just want to read more about Poe. Gonna keep my eye out for new books by M.W Craven

This was a Reread and a book I had completely forgotten I've read but very glad I read it again. Intense, gruesome in parts and enjoyable characters to read about. Especially Tilly and Poe. Curious to read next book and I liked that both the characters and the plot was equally intruiging to follow.

Giving this a 4.5/5 ⭐️ The story flowed so well and all of the details entertwined seamlessly! Really enjoyed this and it wasn’t as predictable as other serial killer books!
tense fast-paced

This was a brilliant read! I was hooked and intrigued before the first chapter. Wow. What a dark, tense and twisted opening. I already can’t wait to see what lies ahead in book two of this series.
The Puppet Show is brilliantly written and a fast paced read! You’re bound to keep turning those pages. I loved Poes character. He’s unique, clever and determined. I loved the unexpected relationship between him and Bradshaw (the office nerd), that was cute! We saw a whole other side to him when they were together, they made a great duo.
It was evident not everyone liked Poe within the team, but it wasn’t about that as they knew he was great at his job and that’s all that matters. The ending of this book had me torn as we saw both sides to this case/crimes. That outcome was without a doubt the biggest jaw dropping moment ever, very unexpected. A clever, crafty case and a great team.
A book that I will be thinking about for a while. Not your average crime case, much darker and cleverer. I awarded a well deserved four stars and would highly recommend this story to you all, you will be in for a treat!
