Considering some memoirs are so long and drawn out I think Trottier did a great job keeping his story interesting and concise. You can really feel his passion through his writing. If you’re an Islanders fan or a fan of 70s/80s hockey this will probably appeal to you a lot more than myself but I still appreciate his insight and experiences.

Terrific life story, good to hear about the legendary Islanders teams. Good info on the mentality and lockerroom life etc of a top hockey player.
Alas also a bit of a tease, several times we're told "I could tell so many stories etc" but then never does, and the descriptions of individual games or moments or series are very generic - they pushed us hard but we won, the feeling was great etc.
I admire Trottier for his bravery in discussion his issues with depression and his clear, unwavering dedication to his sport, his family and his heritage and this was a comfortable, enjoyable enough read; but this book isn't great for anecdotes, hockey stories, or for really "getting into" anything in detail. Pretty standard sports biography then, one for Islanders/Penguins fans or NHL die-hards only I think.

Also: editing error, possibly just my edition but one season the Islanders apparently played Pittsburgh in every single round of the playoffs...

Street-hockey idol, none better than the “trio grande line”! Team super lines are a thing of rarity today.
