In most Kay books the crime solving tech &villains are the focus. This had meaningful character interactions (❤️sometimes there are 0) but she consistently leaves huge emotional conflicts off the page &there’s a big 1 here.
I cannot believe she named the villain Edgar Allen Pogue. He has a (fake) history with the characters as if we would not remember an Edgar Allen Pogue. PC, you have to leave these breadcrumbs. TLP/Lucy’s plot becomes asinine. The ending fizzles out.

I will admit that I almost decided to abandon this a few chapters in, but because I know Cornwell usually has something that ties all the scattered puzzle pieces together, I chose to persevere. This isn't my first Scarpetta novel, but I have always read the books as stand-alone stories. At the beginning of this one I was very confused/lost, but that may have been because I don't know the characters that well. In the end, Cornwell did deliver. Every little thread came together and in the end, everything was connected.

This is a vast improvement on Book #12, Blow Fly. Equilibrium is restored.

BOT, decent, not nearly as good as beginning of series...I am done with Cornwell.

I'm not into murder mysteries (unless its a John Grisham book) - I found this too be a slow read, other than that it was ok.
