What a unique story! I was quite intimidated by the number of pages in the book, but was hooked in rather quickly! The story inside of a story is a very fun way to tell multiple great tales. There was lots of mystery and intrigue. This is the first book I’ve read from Anthony Horowitz but it will not be the last.

There is no doubt that Horowitz is some kind of genious, the way he wraps an entire who-done-it within the larger mystery. In this book he takes it a step further with a brief detour through yet a third mystery. Mastery aside though, this structure makes for a really long and - in some places - tedious story.
Add to all that, the forays into the Susan and Andreas romance and the sister's marriage - it all added up to a bit much for me.
I did listen all the way to the end of the spectacularly complicated "main," mystery but it occurs to me that despite meeting tons of characters there was not a single one I really cared about, even Susan.
I may try another Horowitz but I'm having a similar experience with his other main series. I am impressed by the complexity but when it's all over I don't feel the kind of satisfaction I most enjoy from reading experiences.
