First of all, Andreas is a gem that must be protected at all costs. Full stop.
This series is pretty good. Very good who-done-its with twists and turns but also giving you enough that you can work some of it out as well. It isn't something that purposely makes clues confusing so that you would never be able to guess, but it also isn't so obvious that the whole thing is a waste of time. Susan Ryland is a little annoying to me, but I think that's just the quality of the "private detective" type. The persistent, annoying person who eventually puts it all together.
I love the concept of the book within a book that is used in these and I enjoy the fact that there are multiple mysteries being solved. The audio book is very well done and adds to the enjoyment of the story.

Maybe 5 stars is generous but I do love a book within a book! Both mysteries kept me on my toes. The author has a great range, delivering both a formulaic British mystery set circa 1950 as well as a slightly grittier book set very recently.
This book was amazing!!
To write a book within a book is just incredible and I can not even begin to comprehend how difficult that would be and to tie it in to the actual story.
I enjoyed having so many characters and having the blame pointed at everyone because it meant that you really had no idea who was the murderer.
Overall I enjoyed the characters, the writing and the ending!

Brilliant! Susan Ryeland and Atticus Pund are dynamite leads. I enjoyed this one even more than Magpie Murders and that's saying something. Fun, twisty, and keeps you guessing. The ideal mystery.
A solid 4 for me. A good who dun it within another who dun it. The reveal at the end pointed the way all along. Excited to see how PBS portrays this. I would love for author to write more Atticus Pund mystery novels.
My favorite quote pg259 - everything in life has a pattern and a coincidence is simply the moment when that pattern becomes briefly visible. This quote is everything.
