difficult to finish - likely because i began to hate sarah a quarter of the way through.

2/10 meh Sarah was TSTL really. I'm guessing she had brain damage from drugs. And do men really think that women who are SAH just clean and don't have any thoughts? Also I hate books where the MC is in a fog. It's stupid. Zoe is great but I won't read anymore of these.

Too slow for me, with no character or plot as compelling as his Slough House characters & mysteries. This one’s just not my cup of tea.

Very bitty - I have read others by the author and this one does seem an early, somewhat faltering attempt.

Herron's debut novel is a bit long and meandering, and Sarah's motivation for rescuing the child is never convincing, but it's Herron so you know it's entertaining. I've placed a hold on the next one already. I bought this at Blackwell's during our Oxford visit and then donated it to our holiday house in Stow-in-the-Wold for another traveler to enjoy.
