The writing, the characters, the intrigue, the action, the stakes--it all kept me coming back!
There were a couple of close-calls with sexual content, for those trying to avoid (like me!). I'm glad they didn't get worse because I would've stopped reading, but I didn't want to! I hope the next books don't go any further...

Do you ever finish a book and instantly want to cry and smack some people right across the face? 😅 Those are the emotions the ending gave me.
This is not the Disney Mulan we grew up with...in some ways it was a million times better...and in others I wish it was more Disney 🥹
Phenomenal book that I'm happy I pre-ordered so I can reread when it's released.

It seems like this book, based on the content warnings, is much darker than it is. That said, it is quite heavy and covers a vast number of topics during a time of war and a period where women had little power. And given Meilin’s power, she goes through, witnesses, and does a number of horrible things. It’s an integral part of the story.
