Charlotte throws a stapler at her new boss' head and then he falls in love with her.

This is a big hurt/comfort story with a good "did he touch you?" moment and a lot of trauma for the FMC.

Nalini Singh is always awesome in her writing.

A beautiful romance that is molten honey sexy and sweet, with a swoon worthy hero and a smart, sassy heroine.
4.5 naughty T-rex stars

Gabriel Bishop is a smart, cunning and driven man. When life put roadblocks in his rugby career he turned to his MBA with the same intensity which made him a sports star. For him impossible is just an opinion. Impossible is potential. And taking on the tigress hidden behind the mouse is a challenge he’s not only determined to take but also to win.
“Charlotte, it’s Gabriel… The man who wants to love you every possible way there is on this earth, but you will never hurt you.”

Physically and emotionally brutalized, Charlotte wants nothing more than to remain a wallflower. But her new boss, who barks orders left and right, leaving most everyone cowering in his wake has other plans for her. Can the shy personal assistant duke it out with the T-Rex?
“Gabriel, that was –“
“—inappropriate.”
He smiled slowly, utterly delighted by everything about her. “You know by now that I intend to be highly inappropriate with you?”

Maybe the mention of a T-Rex won‘t make you shiver, but how about the term alpha male? You know that image of a strong, dominant and protective man that will completely sweep you off your feet? Gabriel Bishop, “Mr. Tall, Dark, and Carnivorous” is the embodiment of such creature who I completely fell for.

And let’s not forget about introverted Charlotte Baird who I met in Rock Addiction, book one in the Rock Kiss series, and thought wouldn’t be my kind of heroine. She happily proved me wrong though, with her strong, brave and caring spirit. I could not get enough of The Bishop and his Ms. Baird.
“We’ll play boss and secretary in bed one day, and you can call me Mr. Bishop and say ‘yes, sir’ and ‘of course, sir.’”

When Gabriel is hired to put to put to rights a slowly sinking company because he’s known for his ruthless yet successful tactics, his observant and sharp intellect zeroes in on Charlotte’s tenacity hidden behind ill-fitting clothes and a timid demeanor promoting her as his PA. Effectively commencing the battle of the T-Rex and the mouse.

Making Gabriel realize that Charlie is a woman he also wants in his lair, not just his office.
He wanted her. Petite, intelligent, with a hidden fire in her eyes when he pushed too hard, and a smart mouth he wanted to taste, Charlotte Baird was Gabriel’s version of perfect.

But Gabriel is also quickly privy to the fact that Charlotte has been scarred. And so, his pursuit of her is slow, careful and measured but relentless. And did I mention hot and sexy? Like the flow of molten lava, moving inexorably, changing everything in its path.
“As long as I can throw you on the bed like a caveman and pummel you to orgasm with my love-club, I’m good.”

I loved, loved Gabriel. He didn’t just strategize to get her. He was devoted and determined to coax his Ms. Baird out of her protective shell, while shielding her himself from the rest of the world. It was naughtily beautiful. He was sweet, sexy and firm but patient and never forceful in helping her piece together her traumatized soul. I do need to comment that while I understood the need for him to go slow with her, it did seem to go at a snail’s pace for a bit. Although in retrospect it was realistically perfect.
Truth was, she liked that about him, liked that he always treated her as if he believed she had the strength to stand against him.

Because watching Charlie flourish from being the survivor of a relationship with a man who did nothing but crush her confidence and then brutally attack her because he would not accept her rejection, to a woman who not only decided to leave the past behind but didn’t allow it to rule her was wonderful. I was completely won over by Charlie’s sass and continuous ability to make me laugh.
“We better get in the car before I back you right into your house and give in to my ungentlemanly side.”
“You have a gentlemanly side?”

It was also incredibly touching when she stood firm demanding to be an equal partner in their quest to look after each other’s hearts. Because Gabriel too, had some ghosts from his past that needed to be put to rest.
“Her quiet, thoughtful care had wiped away the gut-churning anger that had gripped him... His and Charlotte’s resulting conversation had made him remember that he wasn’t the lost, angry boy anymore but a man who had a beautiful, smart, deliciously sexy woman in his life.”

I’ve gone on and on about the main characters but I also want to mention the wonderful supporting ones, including the returning appearance of Molly, Charlotte’s best friend and Gabriel’s fun, loving family which rounded out story. I can’t wait to see who’s next!

This book is told from both points of view. Is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. It does not have a cliffhanger and does have a happy ending.

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

DNF'd at 20%. MMC just seems like a bit of a prat, I was bored and felt like I was missing some kind of in joke? All felt a bit forced. First DNF of the year though so pretty happy it's taken three months haha.

Nalini Singh is just in a league of her own.

I really, really liked it. Very cute and the banter was very funny. I liked the male lead a lottt. I’d say it’s reread worthy.
