I usually hate it when a book switches the characters and we follow someone we didn't know so I put that trilogy aside. Well it was a big mistake. Because that book was so good it was better than the last one and I loved the last one. I loved how the author writtes her characters and I think that's what I love the most. You see things through them but they are unrealible because they see things through their own experience. Anyway I sure cant wait to read the third book !!

At first I wasn't happy about the change in POV, but after a few chapters I managed to get into the series again. Like the first it was captivating from the get go, although, admittedly a little heart wrenching from the start too.
I have to admit, I never liked Leif, but what the hell! No, just no man, I hate him after those escapades... I can't decide if I like how the story was taken along with the Sleeping Prince either... his attempts were all effortless, which even in a fantasy novel is rather hard to believe, I shall be anticipating the final book, despite that. Hopefully we can get back to Twylla! Or maybe Silas?

This book was a wild ride. Right of the bat I didn’t like it because my favorite character from the first book died in the prologue. However, I did get over this and the twist in the epilogue was amazing. In terms of characters I really like Errin and Silas. I also really liked Twylla as described from Errin’s perspective cause I found her pretty annoying in the first book. However, Lief sucks and everything I learn about his character makes me like him less. I also would like to know what happened to Errin’s childhood friends and like whether or not they’re dead.

This series just keeps getting better! Fascinating characters, brilliantly woven together series, and the mix of mythology, legends, and fantasy to create the nightmares that the characters are facing are just stupendously done! And those epilogues leave me ridiculously desperate to read the next story, every time!

I just love Melinda’s writing 💙 I honestly thought this was better than the Sin Eater’s Daughter. I love the fairytale quality of it, and the history of the stories told within it. I love the feel of her writing, and really enjoyed the characters. I also really liked that it is largely separate but same universe as the sun eater’s daughter, but towards the end tied back round to that story and those characters - it’s very nicely done. 4.5 stars.
