I love this series. The characters' relationships with one another are so endearing. A theme here is creating your own family, and I wholeheartedly love that.

Not holdimg my interest, premise is good, pacing is just slow and I can't commit to the rest of this series ATM.

A grand second book in a trilogy, not an easy task to pull off. The first book took place in London, this one happens in Paris. There's all sorts of trouble, and possibly the best use of multiple points of view in a novel I've read to date. The main characters progressions are engaging and new characters are great. I am looking forward to checking out book 3 from my library. :)

I liked this better than the first one, I think. Except that about seven-eighths of the way through the book there was a short time when I felt that I was just waiting for it to end. But the end itself was satisfying even though I'd been predicting it for a while. This takes place in Paris and there's a lot of crazy supernatural stuff going on involving not just creatures but the fabric of time. I especially liked the well creatures and the long-haired furry ones; it was fun to see pet-like creatures in this world. I had an easier time telling Ruthven apart from Varney this time although the two ghost-chasers were pretty indistinguishable. But that was okay; it didn't really seem to matter since they did everything together anyway. I will never enjoy vampire details and they seem to be unavoidable in these stories but that says more about me. There are things I like about this series. And I seem to be rather equivocal in my liking. They are fun books.

Aside from the main character, why are nearly all the other significant characters men?
