Decent palette cleanser between Morrison books.

I remember having a lot of fun with these, especially the issues starring personal favorites of mine like Wildcat and Black Canary, and I truly loved Dick Grayson's Batman. Damien is a delight, as always, and the costume that Tim Drake briefly dons is one of my favorite of all time!!

Whhhaat? No Bruce Wayne Batman? It's true. This is a short work - three volumes collected in one, and each focuses on a different Robin and a different perspective on the absence of their mentor. From the beginning it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Grayson is going to pick up the mantle, nevertheless, the book delivers in its portrayal of the conflicted elder son who wants to strike a path of his own, but finds himself more and more the product of his upbringing. The most touching moments are those between Grayson and Alfred, who relates the unspoken pride and faith Bruce had in his first adopted ward, and the support Drake gives to him, while struggling himself with being replaced by Bruce's newly revealed son Damian, who wants the mantle of the Bat himself (but he's 10! And really, there's an order to these things kid, so get in line).

Grayson eventually has to make a decision as pretenders spring up by the dozen, including one familiar, spurned "son" who begins dragging the legacy of Batman through the mud.

Short, but sweet. It's good to see Grayson grow up. And from what I hear, even with Bruce back, Grayson is going to remain the Batman of Gotham for the foreseeable future. It appears Bruce has passed on the torch and moved on to bigger things - like recruiting more Batmen to take care of cities outside of his usual habitat.

The first time I read this book, I thought it was fantastic; it became one of my favorite Batman books and Tony S. Daniel went up a little higher on my favorite comic writers and artists.

After reading it this time, though, I found that it lacked whatever it was that made me see it that way. It was way shorter than I remember (only three issues), which is probably what hurts it most. I think a story like this should be about five issues long.

It also felt very unresolved and messy. We didn't find out what happens with Two-Face, Penguin, and Black Mask.

It wasn't a bad story, but it definitely needed to be longer. I would give it two and a half stars out of five.

The art was just as amazing as I remembered it being; Tony Daniel is a killer artist (and a really nice guy. I met him at Comic-Con last year).

Although I've primarily been a Marvel universe follower over the last few years, I've always been a fan of Batman. While my experience with Batman comics has previously been limited, I have enjoyed just about everything I read. This collection was no different.

I was somewhat familiar with the back story prior to picking it up so I understood the basic history - and in this one, that's kind of important or you'd have no idea why their is a 'Battle for the Cowl' in the first place. This book doesn't explain the back story so if you are unfamiliar with it, you should read previous books first.

I thought the story was very well written and exciting. I also loved the artwork. This one was a huge win for comic lovers, regardless of whether you are a Marvel or DC fan!

Reckoning. Another one where Gotham itself is a character, really.
