while this is not erotic imo, i do think it is perverse. im not sure if this book is one everyone should read. it does make you uncomfortable, but i think uncomfortable needs to be experienced by all. what i found most interesting about this novel is how Lolita is both victim and manipulator of Humbert. there are many instances where Humbert is so desperately trying to keep the upper hand, but he fails to do so and Lolita is, probably, keen to those moments. Humbert is an unreliable narrator, so we don't get any instances of Lolita's pov nor do we get any pov of her outside of Humbert's eyes. it's curious to note how Lolita stays with him for as long as she does, and how she was able to develop relationships despite being on the run? moving about as much as she was with Humbert.

два года не могла подступиться. три недели продиралась. очень счастлива, что пробиться всё же удалось.. хотя это масляный набоков, сахарный язык, плавучий. словесный бальзам на душу. и по идее должен был идти быстрее! задрапировал порочную и страшную историю в интереснейшую исповедь больного человека, обложив детальными декорациями.
