I'm Just a Person

Tig Notaro

Honest and not show-offy, which I think is rare for celebrity memoirs.

I'm not a Tig Notaro fan (only because I don't think I've ever heard/seen her perform), but I stumbled upon her memoir and I like learning about people's lives, so I listened. I feel bad giving a memoir only 3 stars, but I only liked it, didn't love it.

I'd never heard of Tig Notaro before this book slipped into my radar, but her brief memoir captivated me. I would have read it in one sitting if it weren't for the fact that it was so heavy I needed to take an emotional break from it.

The title of this book says it all. Tig is just a person and her story is like many other people's but it resonates with honesty and familiarity and hope.

I think she is amazing, and I love everything that she puts out but I do think that after her show, then interviews, then documentary, then tv show, and now book that maybe she should tell some new stories?

Deadpan is absolutely right about Tig Notaro’s delivery during her stand up routines. It translated to the audiobook as well (read by the author). Whether she was talking about her mother dying, or being extremely happy in a romantic relationship seemed to elicit the same emotional response.
Tig definitely went through the ringer and I’m glad I listened to this, but there’s a but ... I just don’t know how to express what it is that I’m finding is missing. Maybe it is the emotional delivery from the reader.

If you like Tig, you’ll love this book. It’s a little more in depth than the documentary. I really enjoyed it.

This is probably the first comedian written book that I thought was actually well written. Or maybe I just really love Tig Notaro. This book is heart breaking and beautiful and funny. I read it in a single day and now I'm going to miss her voice in my head.
