Bittersweet end-of-life story about two people who decide not to feel so lonely anymore. In a sense, it reminded me of [b: Major Pettigrew's Last Stand|6643090|Major Pettigrew's Last Stand|Helen Simonson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320539020s/6643090.jpg|6837577], but with an ending that was less satisfying to me.

Another tender story by Kent Haruf that takes place in Holt, Colorado. In this story, Addie a widower, asks her widowed neighbor to come spend the nights with her. The invitation is for companionship and talking. They have never had a close relationship before but find that they get along quite well and even though they have to deal with everyone in town knowing their business and many disapproving, they continue because it is worthwhile.
