Never have I enjoyed a story with so many unlikeable characters in it. I did not like most of the characters but the story was compelling which kept me listening. The beautiful French accents by the narrators didn't hurt, either.

Super interesting WWII historical fiction. The intertwining of characters and story lines was done very well. Every character had their flaws and their triumphs. Ines and Celine were both captivating in their own way. And the addition of wine history was cool to learn about.

The first third drew me into the story, the middle third was a litttttle too slow, and then the last third was like holy fckin moly y'all!! The twists! I cried a lot at the end. Eek.

I did find Liv + Grandma's part a bit frustrating because Grandma kept blowing Liv off when she asked her questions. I know that's how it had to be for the ending to be so good, but it did get frustrating.

very good

Love the unexpected twists Harmel ends her books with! Did not disappoint. This is the third book I have read by her. All great!

Maybe 2.5

It’s been a long time since I stayed up all night to read a book. Such an great storyline along with interesting facts on wine and Champagne region of France. Wish I was sipping some bubbly right now!

I just can't get into books where everyone's destiny is determined by the emotional betrayal of two characters. While a lot of the relationships are based on unhealthy stereotypes, I give credit for more depth of character than usual for these types of stories.

So many feelings! I spent the first half of this book totally convinced that I knew exactly how it would turn out. And while some of the revelations are expected, others came completely out of left field to keep me on the edge of my seat. This didn’t give me quite the book hangover that Kristin Harmel’s other works have done, but it is definitely an amazing story of what life was very possibly like in French vineyards during World War II.
