A quick read that has all sorts of Christmas magic. And just what I was looking for in my Christmas reading.
emotional relaxing fast-paced

This book was so lame. How is the same beloved author that wrote Nightingale. So disappointed. The only relief was realizing she wrote this book a long time ago. So clearly had found her niche since then!

Kristin Hannah’s more recent books are known for long, well developed and researched stories about strong women facing challenges, set in a historical fiction backdrop. This book is not that. As this book is so different from her popular works, I figured this was one of her first books written, but it’s actually her 14th book, published in 2005. It’s a short magical realism book about a women who learns her husband has an affair with her sister, and last minute boards a plane to a small town called Hope in the Pacific Northwest over the Christmas holidays to help find herself. While here, she meets Bobby, a boy grieving the loss of his mother, and his father Daniel who is trying to help his son cope. They form and unexpected but deep bond.

It’s not a romance though, and the vibes are honestly a bit depressing. I read it for book club as our Christmas book and it’s NOT a cozy cute Christmas read

If you rate it for the story itself, and not what you’re expecting from a Kristin Hannah book, it was overall enjoyable and a very quick read for an evening. 2.5-3 out of 5

This was a great comfort read. I was in a slump and needed something lighthearted and enjoyable to get me out. This book was perfect for that. Quick read with a cute plot twist.

sometimes when reading a book and you find out your assumptions were wrong, it's a nice surprise and sometimes it's annoying and disappointing

author has a beautiful way with words but the story line was unbelievable and annoying
