If this dude stubbed his toe he'd blame it on the British.

As someone who knows relatively little about the British colonial period in India, I found this book really interesting both in terms of the argument it put forth and as a brisk summary of the period. Because of the nature and structure of the book, I did feel the ghost of counterpoints he was't addressing (especially his arguments about partition and Indian Muslim self-determination), but this will probably just push me to read more on the topic. Overall really enjoyable, and the author did a great job of the audiobook narration.

Well-argued, eloquent, and damning. Tharoor is not a professional historian but his command of both contemporary sources and modern scholarship is excellent. A good antidote for imperial nostalgia, although those most bitten by the bug would no doubt scoff.
