The main character, Selah, was really annoying and she fell in love with her TWO suitors way too fast. She was too naive. Some of the side characters were not written well. For example, Captain Lang’s character was very confusing. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to like him or not. The same goes for Aleksi; I liked his character, but he was very confusing because it was unclear whose side he was on. In my opinion, Bear was completely irrelevant for most of the story and their relationship was literally thrown at us towards the end of the first half of the book. Torden’s character was nothing like they way she had described it in the beginning. Even their relationship was rushed. Both suitors had no chemistry with Selah. In fact, she had more chemistry with Captain Lang and Aleksi than her potential husbands. The myths and names of the countries were really hard to keep up with. I did like how fairytales were connected to the plot and the writing was pretty good. I loved the relationship between the brothers and sister in Norge (I think). I liked reading about the crew and their relationships with each other. Overall, the plot was way too confusing and the main characters were not developed well, but the writing was good.

Sorry, but I DNFed after 200 pages as literally nothing happened. Also, due to zero world building I could not get what universe or what time period we are in. The mentioning of New York, England and even the catholic church gives the impression of our world. At the same time the storyline makes it feel like fantasy story. Super confusing and it makes it unreadable.

3.8/5. Really love this concept but the 3rd act of the book felt a little slow until the very end. Looking forward to the sequel.
