To be clear, I thought that this was the 12th volume in the Sandman canon, so I read it before #11. Oh well. It's basically a standalone anyway, so I doubt I missed anything.
This book is basically a series of portraits, each one depicting one of the seven Endless, and also illustrated by a different artist. I enjoyed most of them, but a few fell flat. The art varied and nothing stood out above the rest, but it was all consistently good. I would have preferred a more unified storyline, but this was interesting in its own right. I admire Neil Gaiman's ability to humanize these characters, who could easily have been treated much differently. All in all, it was good to see the whole gang again and I'm excited to read what little Sandman I have left.

Endless Nights was a strong idea and carried out well, but it's not my favorite in The Sandman series. Some issues, like Dream's, were fantastic, while others probably went a little over my head. Gaiman's genius is undeniable, yet this volume harkened back to some of the so-so story collections he did earlier in the run. While each story focuses on one of the Endless, they are often about people who's lives intertwine with the Endless more than the Endless themselves.
