From Goodreads:
THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS will be a delight to fans of Gaiman's work and newcomers to the graphic novel. Whether haunting, bittersweet, erotic or nightmarish, the seven stories in this book - one for each of the Endless siblings - reveal strange secrets and surprising truths. Each story is illustrated by some of the greatest comic artists from around the world.

I can’t say I was overly impressed with this collection. The artwork is ok and the stories are hit, miss and in-between.

Death ~ This is weird, but may be my favorite.

Desire ~ Payback is a bitch.

Dream ~ Dream is always a favorite. Interesting story and a bit of a mind blown situation. And Desire is such an asshat.

Despair ~ A bit confusing, a lot depressing.

Delirium ~ Totally did not understand any of this.

Destruction ~ I like Destruction, but this is also strange.

Destiny ~ Kinda deep and at the same time simple.
adventurous lighthearted fast-paced
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This was seven different short stories, one for each of the Endless characters. My favourite one was "Dream: The Heart of a Star". The art was gorgeous, totally dreamlike. I think I need to look that guy up and read more books with Miguelanxo Prado as the artist.

I didn't care for either Despair or Delirium's stories. With Despair, I get what Gaiman was going for, but I thought it came off weird and pretentious. Delirium, I liked the story, but hated the artwork, which made me sad because she's my favourite of the Endless.

Destiny's story at the end was really neat too. Less a story than a poem or...I don't know. But it was more about the drawings than the story, with words every once in while. Really, really pretty! It was drawn by Frank Quitely, someone else I'm going to go and look up right now.

Gaiman has said before that for many of the Sandman stories he wrote, he had artists in mind while he wrote them. And you can tell what a difference that makes to the stories, especially with this book. More proof that he's a genius god of writing.

Let start by apologizing to all graphic novels lovers, I'm sorry I never took GN seriosly as a form of reading materials, I always thought them like adult childish' book ;) (eventhough I read couple GN before, not Sandman). This novel proofed me WRONG! It has the complexity of a great novel, a solid storyline, and beside that all, I LOVED the graphics. It really set the tone and nuance.

So, you know I'm a newbie here, not knowing the artist and all - I always loved Gaiman's work though - but this what I got after reading it.

1. Death and Venice
It's dark and stressing. The characters were beautifully cleanly drawn. The story was kind of absurd but how shouldn't it be. Actually this is the one story that hooked me up.

2. What I've Tasted of Desire
The drawing was a little to vulgar to me, but the story... LOVE it. I really like the page when there are drawings of the profile of the characters getting older and older and older.

3. The Heart of A Star
So this is the main character ha.... Interesting!!! Seems like he easily got misunderstood. Can't wait to read more.

4. Fifteen Portraits of Despair
How can someone describe despair so perfectly in so little words. It gave me shivers.

5. Going Inside
It's my second most loved story after Death and Venice in this book. It sooo crazy-savvy-deliriusly insane.

6. On A Peninsula
Also love Delirious in this chapter, not too much for Destruction. I unexpectedly do not like the graphics of this chapter (sooorryy....). I think it too shipshape too tidy too much like marvel and not like the others on the book.

7. Endless Nights
It's bright, it's simple, it's perfect!

The layout and design (and writing) were beautiful. It was definitely unlike anything I'd read before.

My favourites are Delirium and Dream's stories.

This gave a perfect overview of each of the Endless - I can understand them so much better now.

Never read sandman before. This was a good place to start, and perhaps finish, as I do not have the time to sink into the original series right now. A beautiful collection. I adore the concept of a writer who wishes to work with certain artists and crafts a story just for that purpose.

More later....

I've been saving this for a special occasion, and had rather a nice read of it today over cornflakes and Irish coffees and ended up putting on the turkey twenty minutes later than I'd planned. One story for each of the Endless, showcasing the talents of some fairly major comics artists. It's the pure stuff Sandman was made of, so if that was the stuff for you then this is certainly the book for you also. Favourite has to be Delirium: Going Inside, but they're all pretty damn good.

This is a collection of seven graphic stories, one about each of the Endless (Dream's family from the Sandman series). I really enjoyed this book. Each story "fit" very much into the character that was its focus ("15 Portraits of Dispair" was particularly odd). Chronologically, it went all over the place, from one story set billions of years in the past, to ones set after Sandman and it was nice to get a glimpse of Delight in one of them (pre-Delirium).

The stories are all illustrated by different artists, and although the styles are very different, they're all excellent, particularly Frank Quitely's art for Destiny's story. This is a great book but perhaps not the best place for a Sandman virgin to come to the world.
