enjoyable tales of the endless and related friends. We find out what happened in the past with Desire, what happened after the Wake, and what happened to Destruction. I think my favorite story is desires, the most confusing is not Delirium to me but rather but Despair.
Endless Nights serves as an addendum to Neil Gaiman's Sandman, featuring seven short stories, one for each of the Endless. My very favorite is the one about Dream, though going in, I expected it to be less interesting than tales about the Family members we knew the least about. But Gaiman takes us back to when the universe was relatively young, connects to DC continuity in quite unusual ways, and backwards-facing, shows us just how some of the Endless have changed over the eons. I expect I'll be dreaming about this world for a while, appropriately. I also quite liked Desire's erotic tale. In The Sandman Companion, Gaiman said if the series was about Desire, they would be the good guy and only through their antagonism with Dream do we perceive them as a villain. Their story feels like a promise fulfilled. Not unlike Desire's, Death and Destruction's tales are about human beings who meet an Endless, but they are less aware of being their, for lack of a better term, agents. Or "of that Realm". But when you take the Sandman series into account, Dream is allowed his Rose Walkers and Barbies, intimately linked to him, and so other people must walk the realms of the other Endless. Delirium's story is the hardest to take in, understandably surreal, but that's a bug as much as a feature. Despair and Destiny's chapters are portraits rather than stories, the latter one of my favorite (if all too short) pieces, a proper coda to... I was gonna say series, but let's just say "universe" and be done. Simple and elegant, in no small part thanks to Frank Quitely's art. Add this to your Sandman collection.
This is my first sandman novel, it was quite the experiance. I did not follow Deliriums story at all, I really enjoyed desire and dreams stories. I felt like despair was a cope out, lots of modern art and snippets of people whos lives are filled with despair.
It was okay. A good introduction to the characters. It was interesting seeing the differing styles of the different artists and how their artwork connected to the character. Now onto sandman proper. Also, watch out for boobies.
The Sandman novel series returns to storytelling in comic book style. In this volume you get a little more story of the Endless and another minor character. I really enjoyed getting to know Despair on another level. The artist told her story in a different way that has been used during the series.
I say if your wanting to take a peak into the sandman saga this would be a great place to start.
Super trippy. Beautiful and disturbing artwork and a fascinating concept. I am very interested to see the rest of the Sandman universe.
This was okay but not really anything special for me. Each of the Endless gets a short story about themselves and some are definitely better than others. I think Delirium's was my least favorite just because by her very nature it's hard to piece out what was going on. Despair's had a very interesting style but ultimately didn't work for me either. I mostly read it just to finish out the series. I'm sure if you absolutely love Sandman this will be a great volume for you but I've always been a bit meh about it so this is just more of the same for me.
Seven odd years after he "finished" The Sandman series, Gaiman published this collection of stand-alone stories, one for each of the Endless. They range from fairly straightforward to avant-garde. Most of them are at least ok, although the Despair, Delirium, and Destiny stories seemed pretty pointless, other than good excuses for some interesting artwork. The Dream story was my favorite, mostly because of the subtle references to the Green Lantern mythos that I suspect a lot of people missed.
As with all of The Sandman, the artwork is topnotch from some of the best artists around.

This was beautiful, in particular the story about Despair and Delirium.
