This one was a pleasant surprise. I like too vary what I read soo I get a good scope of genres, non - fiction / fiction books . This was my second non - fic pic ( which I more or less saw on the shelf and thought ‘Ahh Michael Mcintyre, he’s alright’ ) and I honestly didn’t have high expectations going into it as although funny Michael didn’t strike me too have the most mind boggling life …( but what do I know ) when I first pick up a book I like too read the first page before buying or investing any time in it and too my pleasent surprise the first sentence hooked me in. It made me laugh. Simple as that. From then unfortunately it went slightly downhill but only because comedy is hard too get across on paper (at least for me ) I fear. But overall I didn’t feel ever too bored reading this biography and it has stuck with me for some weird reason since. I would recommend it more too big fans of Mr. McIntyre than those who are looking for a  riveting artistic biography but in no way is that a dig at the book I enjoyed it and his rise too comedic fame was something I myself invested in , even with today’s knowledge of his success.

As funny as you'd expect from the author, it was a fantastic insight into what I never knew was such a struggle to be a success in comedy.

No list of things that have not aged well would be complete without this book. I liked Michael before I read this book. Not so much now. He comes off as a spoiled, entitled manchild with absolutely no awareness of his privilege and less awareness of how much of a misogynist he is. Lamenting a big busted girl at school getting a breast reduction? Referring to a photo of his mother as "a teen pregnancy waiting to happen"? Aghast at having to attend a state school when his father fell on hard times financially? But don't worry, that just means more girls to potentially have sex with. And how about that terrible girlfriend/wife who became the punchline of so many stand-up jokes? But it's ok, she's just happy he's succeeding! Ugh.
It's pretty standard comedian-autobiographical fare really. Story is told. Occasionally 'funny' lines that the reader thinks may have been amusing if spoken not written. But they weren't. And so it comes off as trying a bit too hard.
I just hope he's changed some of his attitudes in the decade since the book was written, cos if not he's probably just a bit of a dick.
