full review to come but this was compelling enough for me to read in two sittings — just not as good as i expected, and this might be entirely my fault. i just i felt the story to be way too repetitive (more than it needs to be) at times. beautifully translated though!

a female rage novel written before ‘female rage novels’ were such a trend. this story follows olga, a woman in her late thirties who descends into emptiness and despair when her husband suddenly leaves her (and the 2 children) for another woman. i’ve said this before but truly no one writes about motherhood / womanhood with the precision and vicious candour as ferrante.

Powerfully written while hard to read. I don’t know if I’ve read anyone who captures the violence of everyday life and pain and tragedy like Ferrante. And the pacing and interior life of the main character: Ferrante glory.
