The whole epilogue revealing that the whole thing was made up by McCandless is really aggravating and such a cop out for such a fun book, but I think it ultimately does add to the whole thing about men not being able to tolerate when a woman is smarter or more successful than him.

Interesting is the word that keeps coming back, rather than enjoyable - loved the unreliable narrator angle that the film completely cuts out for some reason, and the book works brilliantly as a study in speech and diction. However the long stints about philosophy can be a struggle and muddy an otherwise engaging and fast paced gothic fairy tale
