I liked the way this story wove together, with enough characters and links between them to keep my invested. I did struggle initially to figure out how many people this book was supposed to be about 😂 but I liked the narration in the audio. I think the narrator for Marcellus does a good job of giving him an alien/robotic/super genius voice that makes it clear he's not a regular person here.
I wasn't expecting to feel so much peace about the ending.

Sooooo lovely!!
this was a warm lighthearted read amidst the intense, darker non-fiction that i have been finding myself drawn to in recent history and i treated this as a sort of palette cleanser. it took me a while to get into and i kept putting it off, but i eventually bit the bullet and rushed to finish it cause… idk sunk cost fallacy>
the plot is light and simple, and i really dont like miscommunication tropes in stories so i was getting really annoyed and frustrated near the end, and also i thought ethan was quite an irrelevant character (except that he does move the plot along a little) and also sidebar: maybe it’s cause i live in the uk now but he’s written as such a comically overtly scottish man that it’s slightly cringey… i wish marcellus interfered with the plot more, and it seems quite convoluted how he had helped tova to eventually connect with cameron. i did really enjoy the chapters written from marcellus’ perspective and found them really unique and interesting. tova’s story deals with grief really beautifully and in a nuanced and respectful manner, and that was also a highlight of this read
but ngl, the story is predictable when you’re like… 35% into the book and it’s just a question of how the events are gonna play out since you already know what’s going to happen. overall, it was mid.
