I accidentally starting reading this book after having mistakenly thought it was ‘The Mountain in the Sea’ - another book including octopi. After the first 10% I realised that this was a very different book.

To sum up this book with a quote from Shelby
“The words seep through him, slow and warm like hot chicken broth on a cold day”

I didn’t intend to buy chicken broth but I’ll be damned if it is isn’t comforting.

Interesting story from multiple perspectives and pretty funny at times. I thought it touched on very modern topics like your life not being over after retirement age, moving on after losing a loved one, and I’m pretty sure she was trying to write Cameron as someone struggling with ADHD/neurodivergence.

A heartwarming story about overcoming grief, that is populated by a plot filled with very likable characters in general spar one annoying immature man-child that is critical to plot development but thankfully I am able to largely endure, most importantly elevated by the presence of a very charming octopus, conveying its main theme of hope and love in way that has endeared many readers in need of a positive read.
