Jellaby is just pretty much the cutest thing ever. :D

I like this sweet story of a girl and boy and monster befriending one another. Although the palate and drawings are bleak, I find the story hopeful.

A very smart and very lonely 10-year old girl befriends a huge (yet adorable) purple monster named Jellaby. Absolutely precious, with charming illustrations and an empowering message for kids, my only complaint was the To-Be-Continued ending.

So cute, and the artwork reminded me of Calvin & Hobbes - the proportions of the kids.

Very cute and also touching (though of course cliff hanger ending UGH). I want a Jellaby friend, but I also want to know what's going to happen when they get to the city and what's with that door and where did Portia's dad go? So definitely compelling. I also like the friendship aspect of it.

Super cute! I vaguely remember reading this as a webcomic awhile ago? But it ends on kind of a cliffhanger and now I must seek out Jellaby #2!

My son has enjoyed graphic novels by Kazu Kibiuishi and I have been looking for more like that. I had heard about this book but it was nice to get a look at it. I found it very interesting and it touches on so many themes-- bullying and feelings of isolation and loneliness. But it is written in a hopeful and humorous manner. I will definitely be purchasing this for our library!

This book's story is worth 10 pages. I didn't find any interest in the plot. I wish I could talk more about this but nothing happens really! Characters were also much poorly developed. Didn't like anything about this book. Sorry.

This is probably one of the most adorable comics I have ever read. Portia, who is a bit of an outcast at school, befriends a mute dinosaur/dragon thing that she eventually names Jellaby. Jellaby is adorable, and can't quite get the hang of how things are done in the human world. Portia takes it upon herself to help Jellaby get back to his world, wherever that may be. The only clue she has is a picture of a mysterious doorway. So the adventure begins, with Portia, her friend Jason, and Jellaby traveling to Toronto to find Jellaby's home. The book ends with a wicked cliffhanger - can't wait for volume two! On a side note, my favorite part of this book is when Jellaby buys train tickets for himself, Portia, and Jason - he has to talk to the ticket agent, and the results are hilarious. Highly recommended!
